Insect Apocalypse™ addresses food security concerns by supporting entomological research across photo-physiology, sensory ecology and the integrative photobiological sciences. It connects a familiar environmental disaster, the dramatic and horrifying decline of insect species around the globe, to an equally familiar humanitarian one: world hunger.
Insect Apocalypse™ concentrates on the concept of photo-taxis, that is to say the attraction of insects (and other species) to out of place artificial lighting. Its purpose is to stress the dreadful role of artificial light as it contributes to the ongoing 'insect apocalypse', while at the same time connecting the resulting rearranged ecosystems to suffering of an all too familiar kind.
